The Bertrand Russell Room has a seating capacity of 35 and is perfect for auditions, rehearsals and meetings alike.
It is located on the ground floor and is accessible by wheelchair via a shallow ramp.
The room is equipped with a full HD screen – compatible with HDMI-enabled computers and devices.
The Bertrand Russell Room is named after the mathematician, philosopher and campaigner, who became 3rd Earl Russell. His family were part of the English aristocracy – they owned Russell Square (as well as much other land and property). Russell campaigned for pacifism, social democracy and nuclear disarmament, among other things. He is interesting because he changed his mind so much about political issues and was not afraid of talking about it, even when it led to him being ostracised by his whole social group. He also won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950 and has been described as a notorious womaniser by some – he had 4 wives over the course of his life, yet none of the relationships ended particularly well.
